A fascinating book about Moorcroft founder William Moorcroft written by Neil Swindell.
Orphaned tragically at an early age and brought up in the back streets of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, ambition and hard work saw William Moorcroft qualify at what is now the Royal Academy of Art and secure a job as an artist/potter and designer with industrial porcelain manufacturers James Macintyre & Co. Ltd. Swindell covers Williams journey from Macintyre to co-founding W. Moorcroft Limited with London retailer Liberty, becoming appointed Potters to her Majesty, Queen Mary, the great depression in the 1930's to Williams's death in 1945 when his son Walter took over. 'Behind The Glaze' also concludes the company's dramatic rescue in the 1980's saving William's legacy to now live on as strong as it has ever been.
