Designed by Emma Bossons this numbered edition India 72/9 vase is part of a collection In Honour of HM Queen Elizabeth II, which pays homage to the longest serving Sovereign in British history.  In contrast to her dainty depiction of Nauru, the smallest Commonwealth state, Emma flipped the tables and turned to a larger vase for a vision of India, the largest nation in the Commonwealth. In so doing, she avoided the diverse culture, the billions of people and bustling streets, the Indian Ocean and the Himalayan peaks. Instead, she focused on the national flower of India, a symbol of supreme reality, the lotus. Hindu religion and mythology portray goddess Saraswathi, the muse of learning, as being seated on a lotus flower. There is a saying that although it grows in mud, it smells of myrrh. Mud or myrrh, Emma captures the awesome beauty of a lotus in bloom, coupled with neat, layered buds, graduating from maroon to pink.
