Nightjar PLQ7 limited edition plaque has been designed by Vicky Lovatt and is part of Moorcroft's RSPB British Woodland collection. Found in heathland, moorland and woodland with open clearings, the nightjar can be seen hunting for food at dusk and dawn. They have broad heads and very short bills, but wide mouths, helping them to catch moths in flight. They are exceptionally agile fliers, with long, tapered wings and long tails, but they have very short legs and can scarcely walk. Adept at capturing the characteristics of individual bird species, Vicky places mirrored nightjars in her design and again captures the essence of these almost amusing-looking birds. The couple stare, starry-eyed, at their prize, the Lunar Yellow Underwing- a declining species of moth which has now disappeared from many of its former haunts. At the top of this plaque, the moth, outstretched, boasts a wonderful lemon colouration with earthy brown eye-spots. The backdrop to this display indicates a clear morning sky, melting from pink to blue.
